Listen & Subscribe:

About the Episode:

Amazon A+ content is free, it’s available to every KDP author regardless of exclusivity, and it can increase your conversion rate by up to 20%. Most bestselling books on Amazon already have it. If yours doesn’t, this episode will change that. Ricci Wolman and Ferol Vernon walk through exactly what A+ content is, why it matters, and how to set it up, step by step, in under 30 minutes.

Also: Ricci’s solo owl has become a family. There is a mated pair and a fledgling. The owl saga continues. 🦉

What you’ll learn:

  • What Amazon A+ content actually is, and why it shows up in the middle of every New York Times bestseller’s page
  • Why A+ content is worth your time: Amazon’s own data cites 8–20% conversion lift, and a higher conversion rate makes every future ad dollar go further
  • How A+ content feeds the Amazon AI (Rufus), and why the images, colors, and alt text you upload are being read as metadata
  • Where to find A+ content inside your KDP account (it’s not where you’d expect)
  • The three-module template that 80% of traditional publishers use: hero banner, three image blocks, and a comparison chart
  • Words before pictures: how to write the copy for your modules (20 words max per block) and use Gemini to brainstorm if you’re stuck
  • How to create the image assets in Canva (plus a WWM template with correct dimensions, or use Gemini’s image tool as an alternative
  • The content rules you must follow: editorial reviews only, no customer reviews, no price mentions, no hyperbole unless named
  • How to apply one set of A+ content across an entire series, so one setup covers every book
  • Approval timeline (up to 7 days, often faster) and what to do if you’re still stuck

Show notes include a step-by-step blog post with screenshots, Canva templates with correct image dimensions, and module names, so you can follow along even without the video.

Hello, authors, and welcome to the Written Word Media Podcast. I am Ferol here with Ricci, and today we have a really exciting topic. It’s not related to report cards, even though you may think so. So this is not a podcast about B- content or D+ content. It is a podcast about Amazon A+ content, which is at the top of the record report card. And we’re really excited to dig in to this for you authors, but we all wanna like

First, just talk about something that’s been really fun. Ricci, give us an update on the owl. We’ve had a bunch of comments come in on the podcast about Ricci’s owl sightings. So we thought we’d give a quick update before we get started here.

Ricci (00:48.679)

Yeah, hey Ferol, good to see you. yeah, so for those of you who are catching up, in the spring I was on a walk in the woods near our house and I spotted an owl. And it turns out it was a barred owl. And I started doing some research, and apparently they are native to North Carolina where we live. And over the subsequent weeks, maybe once or twice a week, I would see this owl. And I became somewhat obsessed with this owl. I love this owl.

We look at each other and it just feels like this magical relationship. And so I was sharing that on a pod back in the spring. And it’s been so lovely because people have been commenting and leaving me recommendations on books to read about owls. And so I have this like wonderful TBR list full of owl books. I’m slowly making my way through them and learning tons about owls and owl life. Well, about a month ago, I

You know, I’d been seeing this owl, but I was having a really hard time figuring out if it was male or female, because based on what I was reading, the males are smaller, the females are little, you know, less pretty. And I w I’d been taking pictures with my my phone and getting pretty close to them. And I kept looking at these photos and I’m like, you know, it sometimes it looks like a different owl. And they are they do tend to be mated pairs, they’re mate for life, which is also just so sweet.

And so about a month ago I was back in the forest and I saw two owls. So I saw the mated pair, I saw the male and the female. They were, you know, in trees right next to each other. and so I was like, my gosh, it really is two owls. and then it turns out I actually think there’s a fledgling as well. So it’s an owl family. and the reason I think there’s a fledgling is I can hear it. I looked up the call.

And in some of the mornings I can hear it calling. And I actually saw one of the owls fly and feed another owl, which I think was the fledgling. So my my solo single owl siding has turned into me discovering this beautiful family of owls in the woods that I get to see you know, once or twice a week. And it just continues to be a very magical part of my of my life at the moment. and it just sounds like other people who have interactions with owls.

Ricci (03:11.593)

have had a similar experience where it is just very magical and maybe somewhat spiritual and it’s been wonderful to read all the books that you’ve been recommending. So thank you for your comments, thank you for the book recommendations, and please keep them coming.

Ferol Vernon (03:26.216)

And stay tuned for the spin-off podcast all about owls that we’re thinking about launching later.

Ricci (03:33.111)

I’m deep in my owl era and yes. I even got a little owl gold charm to put on my necklace. So yeah.

Ferol Vernon (03:39.485)

Yeah. So so owls, you know, are wise. they’re related to books. In literature, they’re often, you know, mentioned alongside books. A little bit of a stretch there, but I’m trying to get us back to the start of the episode. Yeah. Which is Amazon A+ content. So you know, what we wanted to do today is go through this sort of very specific topic that I think is really powerful for authors, and we’re gonna walk you through.

Ricci (03:51.404)

Let’s get back on topic. Okay.

Ferol Vernon (04:08.423)

Like what is it, how it works, like why you should care. and by the end of this you’ll understand like both what it is and how you can actually apply it to your own Amazon pages.

Ricci (04:20.088)

Yeah, so actually I am very excited about this too. I’ve I’ve done actually like the exercise of going through Amazon A+ content. So the same excitement I’m bringing to our life, I have brought to Amazon A+ content. I know Ferol, you you have a lot of great great tips as well. but this is gonna be an amazing episode. it’s gonna be kind of on the shorter side because what we’re trying to do is demystify A+ and also just say, hey, this is how you do it. Steps one, two, three.

because it can be overwhelming and we’ll talk about why. So where should we start, Ferol?

Ferol Vernon (04:51.868)

Yeah, and well yeah, so I think I want to do two things before we get into it. So I think Ricci’s gonna talk to us. She’s done like a lot of really detailed work around the mechanics of how it works. And that’s sort of like the how-to section. Before we get to that, I wanna talk about like, you know, if you haven’t heard of A+, like what are we even talking about, right? And so, you know, A+ content is very specifically images, text that you can customize your Amazon page and you can put it on your Amazon page to improve.

that listing page. And so this is something where there’s a very specific way to set it up, which we’ll get into. But when you look at a lot of like traditionally published bestseller books, you’ll notice they all have this Amazon A+ content. They’re these big banners and they sit sort of in the middle of the page right under where your blurb goes. A+ content is free to add. So for KDP authors, not KDP select, so anybody who publishes on Amazon, whether you’re wide or exclusive,

You can use A+ content. And it’s free to use and you can sort of update your page with this mechanism. And what we’re going to do today, there’s actually like, it’s not a complicated system, but there’s a lot of a lot to it. So what we’re going to show you is sort of one way to bake the cake, so to speak. And then once you have that down, you can go cook your own recipe or you can make modifications. But we’re going to kind of try to keep this pretty focused to get through it.

Ricci (06:18.645)

Yeah, before we jump straight into that, I do want to spend a little bit of time on like why would you even do A+ content, right? So like, okay, it’s there, it exists, there’s tons of Amazon functionality that exists, but like, is it worth your while to spend the half an hour per book to set this up? And there are a couple of reasons that we think it is. the first is that it’s a totally free marketing tool. So there’s no additional cost. The only cost is actually the time it takes for you to set it up.

Ferol Vernon (06:24.613)

Yeah.

Ferol Vernon (06:42.063)

Yeah.

Ricci (06:46.528)

the second is it takes up more real estate on your page. And so this is important because the Amazon pages are becoming more and more cluttered with ads and also bots and a lot of other content that might steal attention away from your book itself. And what we love about Amazon A+ content is, you know, it does take up a lot of the real estate, it’s really in your face and you can, you know, you it really pulls the attention.

To your book instead of to other elements on the page. and then I think, Ferol there’s some data actually around book performance that has A+ content, right?

Ferol Vernon (07:19.884)

Yeah.

Yeah, so according to Amazon’s own literature, right? So this is coming from Amazon. So it’s the per the person who’s offering us, take it with a grain of salt. They say that A+ content can increase your conversion rate between 8% and 20%. Okay. And then there’s a few articles out there that try to get at that claim and see if it’s real. And some of them say the increase can be 3% to 20%, right? But nobody it basically it can’t hurt, right? So this is something that probably will help somewhere between

you know,3%, 5% to 20% conversion rate, which is meaningful. And and so so it’s like definitely worth doing. And the the one other point I wanted to make is when you increase your conversion rate by adding A+ content, you actually make all of your future advertising more effective. Right. And so every time you’re spending a dollar on ads, whether you’re buying with written word media or you’re spending somewhere else or buying Facebook ads or whatever you’re doing, that advertising spend is more effective.

with a conversion rate that’s higher. So the sooner you do this, the sooner that compounding increase takes hold.

Ricci (08:30.098)

Yeah, exactly. And you know, we like anything that makes your marketing dollars go further and and work harder for you. so lots of good data out there to back up that, you know, there’s no harm in doing this. and then the last point here is also if you go back and listen to our pod about the Amazon A 10 algorithm.

in this new HL algorithm, what’s important in what’s important is being able to tell the AI model what the vibes of your book are. And so this is a very easy way to put additional vibe metadata onto the page that is also actually doing double duty and engaging your reader as well.

Ferol Vernon (09:07.177)

Yeah.

Ferol Vernon (09:17.557)

Yeah, that Amazon A ta A10 algorithm actually rewards higher converting pages. So you’ll see not only like your paid ad performance improve, it should also help your organic performance with the algorithm a little bit. So there’s a there’s a million reasons why you should do this. and so like we feel really confident making this as like a strong recommend for every indie author out there who’s listening and even the publishers who aren’t doing it yet, you should definitely give it a look. so let’s get into Ricci, the actual like how to do this.

and like one of the hardest parts is like where does it live and just finding it because that’s actually a lot harder than it should be.

Ricci (09:55.174)

Yeah, exactly. So I’m actually for those of you watching, I’m gonna share my screen, but if you’re listening, I’m gonna walk through this step by step and we will also have a blog post that has this step by step with images and screenshots so you can see exactly what I did to set this up and and how I did it.

Ricci (10:32.151)

okay, so the first thing that you do is you log in to your KDP account. As Ferol said, this is available to anyone who is publishing direct on Kindle and has can actually manage their book data within the KDP account. Again, you do not have to be exclusive to Amazon, you just have to have your book on KDP. And then what you do is when you come into KDP, you let me write so when you log in, you kind of see the home screen. And what you want to do is go to the top right corner.

And there’s a there’s a navigation menu that has a you wanna go to the top right corner and click on marketing. There’s a link up all the way at the top that says marketing. So what you don’t do is actually go down to the book that you want to create A+ content on, which is a little counterintuitive. You go into the marketing tab, and what you do is then you assign the marketing assets, the A+ assets, to a book later on in the process.

Ferol Vernon (11:22.228)

Yeah, very.

Ricci (11:30.415)

but I did spend a few minutes, you know, going down to each book and trying to figure out where it was. So there you go. Learn from me. So once you click on marketing, you have obviously they have KDP select at the top because they love to sell that. Then they have Amazon ads and author central. And then right underneath that, in kind of the third row, it says A+ content. And then what you do is you have to choose a marketplace. So for most it’s gonna be Amazon.com or maybe Amazon.

C O.uk, but you would click okay, I want to do A+ content on the Amazon.com marketplace, and then you click a button that says manage A+ content. And now you’re basically in where you can start creating the content itself. Once you’re in, you just click the button that says start creating A+ content, and this is where you actually have to start making decisions. So I think for a lot of authors who’ve tried to do A+ content.

What I’ve heard is people say, I get stuck, I don’t know what to put in in the modules, I don’t know which modules to pick. And I understand that because I had the same overwhelm in the beginning because I came in here and I was like, I’m just going to create a few things. The problem is when you click add a module, there are a bunch of different modules that you can choose from. And so then you’re you have to say, okay, which modules should I do? So

The way to think about A+ content is that the modules are like Lego blocks. So you get to pick which Lego blocks do you want to put together to create your design. And what we’re recommending is just go with the like standard design that like 80% of authors and publishers are are using. We looked at like what most of the Trad publishers are using. And the design that they go with is basically a big top banner, three squares.

Ferol Vernon (13:11.609)

Yeah.

Ricci (13:25.63)

and a comparison chart. So you’ve got basically would have three modules and you’re done. All right, I’m going to pause there, Ferol, what comments, questions do you have?

Ferol Vernon (13:30.662)

Yeah. And just a just y Yeah, so the two notes I would make here is like, you know, we said at the beginning of the episode, like we’re gonna we’re gonna teach you how to bake the cake. So this is the cake that we’re gonna bake, is what you’re kind of seeing right now on the screen. And for those of you listening, there’s like one big hero image at the top, three small sort of square images below that, and then this grid page that identifies your series or other books in your catalog. So we’re gonna teach you how to bake that cake. If you wanna get fancy with it after you bake this cake, that’s fine.

but the other thing that we did is we spot checked a lot of the books on the New York Times bestseller list. And like this A+ content is nearly ubiquitous, right? Like literally like every well-selling book has this. So I think what it’s important for authors to realize is that this is not like, hey, a secret optimization. This is kind of table stakes. Like everybody who’s successful is doing this now. So it really is like worth the investment of time. Like if you’re listening to the pod, like set aside an hour.

Or like a half an hour at least and like go through these steps. you can listen to us on one point five speed if you don’t have the time. but it it’s really worth doing. and it’s not that hard. And and Ricci’s gonna break it down for you.

Ricci (14:41.621)

Yeah, I’d also say there’s no data that says, if you put in six modules and you overcomplicate it, that it’s going to be better for you. And so I think this is where some of the overwhelm comes from is like how many modules? What should I put in? And what we’re saying is like, let’s just start simple, do three modules, which we know will take you less than half an hour, and then you’re going to be, you know, probably ahead of most authors and on par with most of the

Ferol Vernon (14:45.986)

Right.

Ricci (15:09.247)

publishers and best selling authors who are out there.

Ferol Vernon (15:12.771)

Yeah. And I just want to flag one thing while we’re looking at this screen. and we’ll get to some of the no-nos things not to do. but like we’re looking at Emily Henry’s page. and you know, there’s a quote from like Cosmopolitan magazine on there. And so it’s like a like a quote, and it’s like the queen of romance novels, Cosmopolitan. That’s a very cool bit. just be careful. You cannot actually you can put editorial reviews in A+ content. You cannot put

Amazon reviews. So if you have like a reader who wrote something really lovely about your book, that’s awesome, but you can’t reuse that in one of your A+ modules.

Ricci (15:47.911)

Yeah, that’s exactly right. So editorial reviews only. And you can see the Emily Henry page we’re looking at, her blocks say the Queen of Romance novels. So that’s all vibes, right? It’s basically indicating, hey, if you’re into romance novels, this is what you want. a dazzling dazzling, poignant love story. So that’s telling you a little bit more about the book itself, like what’s the vibes of the book, which charm and heart, which is giving you more about like how’s the book gonna make you feel.

The Emily Henry page we’re looking at uses a ton of editorial reviews, but that’s actually, you don’t have to do that at all. Many, many of the books don’t. But there are guidelines. So you can’t use customer reviews. you can’t use hyperbole like bestseller, number one, award winning, unless you can name this specific award. So we would just say stay away from it. It’s not worth poking the bear. So don’t use any of those phrases.

Ferol Vernon (16:22.634)

At all. Yeah.

Ferol Vernon (16:40.918)

Yeah.

Ricci (16:45.65)

and then you can’t put any information on price, which makes sense, right? Because this is static content. So that’ll want you saying it’s on sale or it’s free or limited time. Even if you do have a permafree book, we wouldn’t put that in the A+ content. The the T’s and C’s say specifically like don’t talk about the price of the book at all. and then anything that’s time specific as well, you want to avoid. So you don’t want like new or just released.

Ferol Vernon (17:02.71)

Don’t do that. Yeah.

Ricci (17:12.677)

because again that content’s gonna age pretty quickly as the days and weeks go on.

Ferol Vernon (17:18.602)

Yeah. And and the one note here is that like the Amazon AI is digesting these images, right? So sort of like the bright, vibrant colors, the the words, even though they’re in images, the AI can read those words and they’re using all that to get, you know, what Ricci said, like the vibe, but that helps the AI recommend other like similar books. Like when somebody’s looking at a similar book to yours, it helps yours come up.

Ricci (17:48.624)

Okay, so we’ve kind of covered some of the you know T’s and C’s and what exactly we’re gonna be building here in terms of the template. So we’re basically saying, okay, we know what the template we’re gonna build. So in order to build the template, it’s actually very simple.

Ricci (19:39.776)

Okay, so we know what what layout we’re going for. So now what we do is we add those three modules in the KDP portal where it says add module. So I will click add module, and then the three modules are sitting there. It’s the standard comparison chart, then you add module again, and it’s the standard three images plus text, and then we add one more module.

Which is the standard image and dark text overlay. And this is where it gets confusing, right? I had to play with this to figure out what the three modules are, but we figured this out for you. So in the show notes and in the blog post, it’ll list exactly what each module is called, and it’ll also tell you what the dimensions are for the image. So just go and grab those and then you know exactly what to do. And then it’s very easy to just order these. So the standard comparison chart goes to the bottom, and then we start with.

You know, the banner is basically the standard image and dark text overlay, and then the three images and text are your three boxes. So you have all three modules ready to go. And now all you need to do is actually upload content. So this is the other place where I think we all get stuck because creating content can be really challenging. So you’ve got to figure out what’s the copy that’s going to go on the content, and then how do I create the content itself? And this is where you have two options. Option one

is to do kind of the more manual traditional way, which is come up with a copy yourself. You all are writers, so that should be pretty easy. And then go into Canva and create the banners. The second way you could do this is to basically use AI and you can do all of this in Gemini. So let’s just start by talking a little bit about the more traditional way to do it because Ferol has done some homework in Canva and we’ve created some tools that can help you there too.

Ferol Vernon (21:38.052)

Yeah. So I think like one of the things that that Ricci said that I think is really important that, you know, when we were preparing for the show, she wrote down, I thought this is a great takeaway, is like words before pictures, right? So a lot of people jump jump to Canva or they jump to nano banana or whatever you’re using to make your imagery, before you like sit down and think about what you need to write. Right. And so I think that’s really important. Do that exercise. And whether you’re you want to use AI or not, whatever. But like, you know, spend the a few minutes talking to your

you know, Gemini or just journaling and figure out what you want to write on this content. and when you do write it, you want to make sure you’re you’re getting those vibes, right? That you’re getting the genre notes and the tropes and the things that about your book. You’re essentially adding metadata and sort of compelling marketing copy. You don’t want to keyword stuff it, but you want to sort of teach the algorithm about the vibes. So I think, you know, words, words before pictures, focus on the vibes.

And then, you know, what Ricci was alluding to is in Canva, and we’ll we’ll release in the show notes a a template that Rimore Media has developed that’ll give you for the image dimensions, help make that a little bit easier in Canva. and then that way you can once you have the the copy that you’re happy with, you can actually make an image out of it in Canva and export that pretty easily.

Ricci (22:53.703)

Yeah, precisely, because that’s the other blocker, right? You’re like, okay, what are the dimensions? If you have a graphic designer, they can help you with that, with this. So you could just send them the copy and say, hey, this is the copy for each of my blocks. These are the dimensions for each block, and have them create it for you. I would also say if you’re working on a new book and you’re working with a designer to do your cover design, I would ask them when they give you your cover design to also create your A+ content at the same time.

Ferol Vernon (23:00.833)

Yeah.

Ferol Vernon (23:18.946)

Yeah.

Ricci (23:20.775)

Because then it’s going to look you know super cohesive. It’s going to have kind of the same colors. and that way when you’re uploading your book, you can do your A+ content right away. So in terms of coming up with a copy, you don’t need very much. So I think that’s the other thing that’s really important to know is like you don’t have a lot of real estate, you’re not gonna be able to put a lot of words in there. We’re maybe talking about 20 words max.

So you don’t need to overthink the copy, right? The head banner can say something like, you know, welcome to I I’m doing this for a cozy mystery. So I was like, welcome to Nantucket, where the gossip is fresh and the secrets are deadly. So it’s just kind of like welcoming people in to the world that you’ve created. And it again, that’s it. That’s that’s the end total of the copy that’s on that banner. And then for each of your blocks, you can do one for mood. So I did.

The perfect escape, one for genre, which I put small town who done it, and then one for audience for book and food lovers. But again, there’s not a lot of words that you’re using here. So you don’t need to overthink again what you’re putting in these blocks. You know your book, you know your world. What are the things that you want to highlight that you think that readers might be interested in? And if you’re like, I’m really stuck on this.

You could go into Gemini, you can copy your book description, and you could say, Hey, I need a one-liner for a banner, and I need a couple of, you know, two to three word descriptions of my book to put in the blocks. and Gemini will help you, or at least it’ll help you brainstorm. Sometimes you’ll see stuff and you’ll be like, yeah, I don’t like that wording, but that’s what I’m gonna put in the blocks instead.

Ferol Vernon (25:04.438)

Yeah.

Ferol Vernon (25:10.729)

The other thing you can do for inspiration is look at what other people are doing. So go find some of your favorite authors that have A+ content or people who are off the bestseller list and just look at some of the like ways that they’re referring to their book and what they’re saying. And you can kind of mimic some of that style, but you know, make it unique to your own.

Ricci (25:34.566)

Precisely. Okay, so once you have the copy, then you have to create the assets. So as Ferol said, you can go into Canva and use the templates that we have. This is another area where you don’t necessarily have to match the color scheme of the content to your book cover. That that is quite difficult. So if you’re not having it done by your designer and you’re DIYing this, I wouldn’t try and like pull in the exact texture and background of your cover, because that’s pretty challenging to do unless you have a lot of

Assets and your somewhat adapted design. It’s enough to just say, okay, let’s just say you’re doing like a mafia romance and it’s going to be dark. Make your background blacks and grays and then put the text in white, right? If you’re doing something that’s you know, a children’s book, just make the background primary colors and do the text in, you know, in do put the text in in different colors as well. So you can do that in Canva.

or again, you could stay in Gemini, and Gemini has a really good tool called Nano Banana that helps you create images, and you could basically just give it a prompt and say, create me a banner using this copy and these colors, and these are the dimensions, and then Gemini will create that for you, and you can iterate on that and then download that and and upload it into the Amazon A+ within KDP.

Ferol Vernon (27:01.683)

Yeah. And just one note, when you’re doing that, like you you’re, you know, this is for customers who are viewing it, but it’s also for the sort of AI crawler algorithm bots. And just make sure when you upload your your images that you’re also uploading alt text because the sort of Rufus, the little AI bot that’s built into Amazon, looks at things like not only the colors like Ricci was saying, but also the alt text that you’re uploading in the actual A+ content module.

screen that Ricci’s looking at right now.

Ricci (27:33.633)

Yeah, and actually I don’t it will not let you proceed without alt text. So it makes you put that in. But the alt text can literally just be the copy that is on the banner. The same copy, right? Yeah.

Ricci (28:11.872)

Okay, so now you have your banner and it’s ready to go. What you would do is you would go to your standard image and dark text module, and then what you do is you click the button all the way down in the bottom right-hand corner that says add background image, and then you get a you a screen you’d be very familiar with, which is you know, drag or select an image into the box to upload. And so you just drag your banner in. There’s the alt text.

So you would literally enter exactly the same old text that’s on the banner, and then you hit add. it looks weird in the interface because of the dark text overlay, but don’t worry about that. There’s also a little preview button right next to the editor, so you can preview it and you can see that it looks perfect in the preview mode, even though it looks odd with the dark text overlay. The other thing, yeah.

Ferol Vernon (29:06.704)

Yeah. Just one quick one quick note before we go forward. Ricci, if you can go back to the preview screen, just make sure authors understand this. So what you’re seeing here is the mobile version of the A+ content. And if you click on that desktop button, it actually just gets a little bit bigger and it shows you the desktop. But you know, 60 to 70 percent of Amazon traffic is on mobile, right? So I encourage you to keep that mobile as like the default. And when you’re designing your text, you can see Ricci has this like big high contrast caps text.

Make your text big enough that people can see it on their phones because that’s how the overwhelming majority of your readers are gonna first encounter this content.

Ricci (29:43.904)

Yep. just one other note around these modules. Amazon does ha have this kind of AI tool. So they all say AI ready. And then there is a button that says like, you know, select content to generate. I played with that a little bit and I had trouble getting it to give me something that was workable. So I found it easier to just go outside of Amazon to do that. My guess is that will get better over time. And if any of you, you know, figure out what the right

prompts for the AI generation within Amazon is, let us know in the comments on the blog post and we’ll definitely update it. but I thought there was going to be a shortcut and it it actually wasn’t. but I do think that will improve over time.

Ferol Vernon (30:23.365)

Yeah.

Ferol Vernon (30:26.991)

Yeah, it’s just one of those things maybe not ready for prime time right now.

Ricci (30:30.087)

Yep. so you know you just go through the same process where you would add the images for all of your blocks, which you know we don’t need to go through that process. and that’s again, you know, pretty easy to do. and then the last step is figuring out your comparison chart. And this is actually like so easy. This was the easiest piece, the easiest module.

Because literally all you do is you enter an asin and it will automatically pull all the information. So if you have a series, obviously you’re gonna want to put all the books in the series, including book one. So you would just enter the asin here.

Ricci (31:38.493)

So you would just put in the ass in here and it’ll automatically pull in your image and your title. There are also little buttons at the bottom where you can check show reviews, show prices, and show add to cart button. You should check all of those. Now for the comparison product, I I would love it if you would just they would let you do this and you’re all done. But it actually won’t let you proceed until you add a metric. So you have to add one additional line to your comparison chart.

Which again, the easiest thing to do here is to just add words. So if we go back to the Emily Henry example, you see that the words that they put was more from Emily Henry. That’s the the metric. And then for each book, they just put in some additional metadata. So for funny story, it says first they were heartbroken strangers, then they were roommates. So it basically gives like a very brief description of the book itself.

Ferol Vernon (32:22.837)

metric.

Ricci (32:36.22)

for my content, which is a which was a cozy mystery, what I did is I made the metric say Angie Proudie mysteries are charming and suspenseful. And then for each book I just had three words like crime and nourishment. I said bookstores, bakeries, and Nantucket for prize and prejudice. I said Christmas, treasure and Monet. So really just like, you know, the vibes of what each of the different series are. Again, you can be creative here with what you want to put in.

The just the thing to know and the takeaway is you have to put something in, otherwise Amazon will not let you proceed.

Ferol Vernon (33:11.68)

And I think, you know, for authors that write in series, this is a no-brainer, right? You should absolutely put your series and should absolutely put them in in order. so you have control over that. but even for authors who don’t write in series, you might just have to massage the text a little bit, but you can still put like other, you know, like Emily Henry did, like other books by this author kind of thing. And you can show other pieces of your catalog there, even if they aren’t, you know, in the same series or even if they don’t share the same world, that’s fine. You’re just sort of that module at the bottom.

is showing other content. And I think one of the really cool parts about this is you’re adding this A+ content to your your page, but it looks very it’s got like the Amazon style. So it feels to the consumer very much like Amazon is adding it, but it’s you have control over what’s said there, which I think is powerful.

Ricci (33:59.49)

Exactly. And then you’re basically done. So once you’ve got all three modules are in, you would you move on to the next step. And the next step is where you apply Assens. on the screenshot, it’s not letting me pass because I haven’t put in all the module blocks. But basically that is where you go and say, okay, for this A+ content, I want it to apply to this title.

And you can actually have A+ content applied to multiple titles. So what I did is for this series, the Crime and Nourishment series, I actually applied this content to every single book in the series. So if you click on the second book in the series and you scroll down, you would see the same content. Because again, didn’t need to overthink this. The content is relevant across the entire series. And this way I got more real estate on every single book in the series without having to

actually create custom content for every single book in the series. So you can apply as many ASINs as you want and then you basically submit for approval. It says it takes up to seven days. I think mine was approved in like five business days. and then you, you know, it’s just there. It’s on your page, taking up all this great real estate and hopefully helping you with conversion and educating the algos and teaching readers what your books are about.

Ferol Vernon (35:25.607)

Amazing. Okay. I think that’s like a great place to wrap now that we’ve just like gone through this whole process. And so, you know, what I want to do before we end is just kind of like recap like where we are here. And I think, you know, the really important points about what we talked about today is that A+ content is free. Okay. It doesn’t cost you anything to add this. it’s relatively easy to create. And we walked you through some of those things. so it can feel overwhelming and confusing, but it’s not that bad. So it’s worth taking the time to do.

And I think, you know, one of the things that we like to think about, these modules that you’re doing, those are just Lego bricks that you’re building on your page to make your page convert better. Right. So like it’s free, it helps your page convert better, it’s relatively easy. and you know, we’ll have some additional links, templates, reference material in the show notes to help you navigate this world of A+ content. But you know, the more Ricci and I dug into it, you know, preparing for the show, the more we’re like, wow, like authors, you really should take the time.

To get your page set up this way.

Ricci (36:26.539)

Yeah, and you know, a lot of you are probably listening and being like, Ferol, I just listened to you guys talk for 20 minutes and it doesn’t sound simple at all, right? Because the first time you’re hearing all of this, and if you’re hearing it on audio, you’re like, This sounds pretty overwhelming. And like, yeah, and I, you know, we get that, which is why we will have additional assets for you. Like I said, the blog post, the show notes, and the Canva templates.

Ferol Vernon (36:34.191)

Yeah.

Ferol Vernon (36:38.436)

In yeah, maybe you’re in the car or the subway and you’re like

Ricci (36:53.748)

And then also, if you just go and look watch the pod on YouTube, you’ll actually see some of the walkthroughs and how we selected the modules. the one thing we didn’t really touch on very specifically here is what the dimensions of each of those three well, actually, it’s only the two modules because the comparison chart doesn’t have any upload assets. but we’ll have that information there as well. So if you’re listening to this and you’re like, it sounds really complicated.

it it’s really not. Please believe us. Go and look at the blog post that’ll have a step by step and and give it a chance. and if you’re still stuck, you know, write into us and and let us know where you’re getting stuck and we will we can create more stuff to try and help you all.
